Mass Driver 2 Final Report Part 1 - NASA/SSI

voltage of 750V were not reached because the PI had Mass Driver Two dismantled in the author's absence before they could be obtained. So only a limited amount of these complete system tests were conducted. Test no. 1-4 were performed on 15 May 81, nos. 5-8 on 17 May 81, nos. 9-13 on 21 May 81, and no. 14 on 27 May 81. Tests no. 9-13 were video taped by Gregg Maryniak of the Chicago Society for Space Settlement and include procedures before and after a test firing. A summary of the operating parameters for these 14 tests are listed in Tables 6.8-6.10. The drive current waveforms are shown in Figs. 6.6-6.19. These current waveforms were used to obtain initial and final velocities in the accelerator and are presented in Table 6.11. These initial velocities are not injector velocities (lower) but the average velocity between drive coil firing no. 1 and 3. The final velocity was the average velocity between the last two drive coil firings on phase one.
