With this as a point of reference, we developed parametric cost estimating relationships for the various space solar power (SSP) architecture elements. These relationships are described below, including methods of handling significant departures from the reference architecture. The new architectures under investigation differ widely from the reference, in areas such as their lack of in-space infrastructure and minimal requirement for human presence. As shown by the non-recurring costs in Table 5-3, the costs of the in-space infrastructure were the dominant cost contributor to the reference system. 5.3. Data Dictionary Overview & Reference A data dictionary has been developed as an accompanying document to be used with the IAAM. There are many purposes for this data dictionary. Among them are to facilitate communication and understanding, and to ensure data consistency and traceability. This document also acts as a mechanism of communication among SSP team members for definition of data parameters, their units, descriptions, and relationship to other parameters. It explicitly defines the relationships among all parameters in the IAAM, such that they can be readily identified and understood. This document has evolved as the model progressed, with additional variables, modifications to relationships, etc. A parameter identification scheme was developed, which identifies key characteristics of any parameter based on the parameter name. A guide for the parameter identification code that is relevant for architecture elements A-H & T is shown in Figure 5-5. The document is structured according to the overall model architecture, with parameter nomenclature defined according to primary components of the model For each parameter, three paragraphs are used to define and describe it In the first paragraph, the variable name is provided, along with a short descriptive name and the units. The second paragraph shows the relationship of the parameter to other parameters, or identified that parameter as an input. The third paragraph Figure 5-5 IAAM Parameter Identification describes the parameter. The description can include background on how it is determined, and should include references where available, to sources for parametric relationships or other data-related topics.
