Features of the system include the ability to crosslink power from one spacecraft to another via optical or radio-frequency means. A by product of the ability to optically crosslink from one Power Web element to another would be the ability to transmit laser energy to space stations and facilities in Low Earth Orbit, to humans on the near side of the Moon, and to spacecraft in and beyond cislunar space. Further, such a system of orbital links could be used to relay power transmitted from trans-GEO locations to those areas of the Earth not within line of sight of the power source. Laser capability could also be used to transmit power to relatively small user systems on the ground by means of the Airstat Power Trasponders proposed by Dick Dickinson. A key use of the Power Web concept would be for providing peak power or load leveling on an intercontinental basis. This could be accomplished using solar energy generated by the Power Web system elements or by the relay of power generated by other sources which could include other space power assets in a variety of orbits as well as traditional terrestrial sources.
