Markets and Commercial Power Utilities Interface Electrical energy markets on a global basis could be served by a single SolarDisc satellite with incremental increases in power level from a single satellite (as the SolarDisc grows), and with expanded coverage from a single satellite with addition of multiple ground segments, and with further expansion of the space segment to a constellation of at least three-to-four satellites covering the majority of the Earth's energy markets. This interface may be any one of several diverse types available but not yet assessed, including single site power 'into the grid Figure 3-11 The GEO SolarDisc Concept Architectural Context 3.7. GEO Millimeter Wave The “GEO/mm-wave” concept is intended to explore the trade space “niche” for a relatively smaller scale, more easily achievable first step towards an operation Space Solar Power System. A smaller, more manageable system is enabled by three major design characteristics: (1) a relatively low delivered ground power requirement of 50 MW, (2) location of the space segment in Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO), and (3) millimeter (mm) wave power transmission.
