functions between man and machine, considering the reliability of operation execution. The presented method of reliability analysis, which should be done in the initial stage of creating docking devices, makes it possible not only to efficiently construct the principal scheme and control, but also to lay the foundation for insuring reliability in al! subsequent states. Thus, the program to insure reliability, which is based on an analysis of potential failures, concentrates the attention of specialists in all fields (planners, constructors, designers, technologists, controllers, testers, and users) on the most critical elements, conditions, and interactions. Overall, this program provides measures to conduct the following basic work: development of principal schemes, construction, selection of materials and durability ratings, determination of the volume and conditions of testing, the creation of ~arth-based test units and equipment, testing of elements and comprehensive testing, monitoring of production, pre-flight preparation, etc. Tn the final stage of analysis, potential failures are the basis for the compilation of a list and the composition of irregular situations which may arise in flight, to find ways to get out of these situations. These situations are simulated in the training of the crew and the Earth-based control personnel. 2.4. Provision of Compatibility and Androgyny The connection or docking of spacecraft is insured by the compatibility of the two docking assemblies installed on the craft. The docking of two docking assemblies is provided for by mutually linked dimensions and positions of matching (interacting or connecting) elements of the construction. Models of these assemblies are subjected to testing and, usually, pre-flight control docking of the docking assembly intended for use in space is verified. The compatibility is primarily insured by the matching of the dimensions of directly interacting elements of the construction, which is regulated by special plans. Thus, the dimensions of the interacting elements and surfaces of the A PDAs were regulated by three plans, which were one of the joint technical documents of the Document of Interacting Equipment. One of them is shown in Eigure 2.2.
