Simplified Complex Test Units Since relative motion is important in docking, a scheme is suggested with one mobile model with equivalent inertial and geometric characteristics; one docking assembly is installed on this model, and the other docking assembly is attached to an immobile platform. To reproduce the docking of a spacecraft with a “heavy” station this equivalent model is a model of the spacecraft. For comparable parameters of the docking spacecraft, the basic parameters of the model (Figure 7.6) should reproduce as closely as possible the relative motion and interaction during impacts. To determine the parameters of such an equivalent model the initial scheme is examined: the interaction of two spacecraft docked by a “rod and cone” docking device and in the form of two solid two-dimensional bodies with parameters
