IV. CONCLUDING REMARKS In conclusion a few observations regarding the feasibility of the SPS concept as presented in Ref. 2 are appropriate and are quoted as follow: “The Solar Power Satellite remains a possibility for the future.” “The Concept Development and Evaluation Program did not uncover any unsur- mountable objection to Solar Power Satellite, but this does not mean it would be an easy task to gain acceptance.” “. . . It would be unwise to embark on a fully committed program to deploy a Solar Power Satellite.” “. . . We must first conduct a broad range of basic and applied research. . . At the present time NASA is not sponsoring a dedicated SPS technology program. Many of the agencies’ technology programs, however, are pertinent to the SPS concept as well as other potential space programs. In addition, and possibly more important, the space Shuttle program will provide experience and information in the critical areas of space transportation reusability and associated economics. Until
