The t) predicted by the diagnostic model and by the Ames two-dimensional numerical model are compared in Fig. 6. Also shown is the prediction from Eq. 9, which does not include the effects of chemical reactions on the NO abundance. It is clear from Fig. 6 that Eq. 15 gives a reasonable approximation to the values of 17 calculated by the numerical model. The verical transport contained in the numerical model but not in- the diagnostic model is responsible for the larger values of 17 below 60 km and for the smoother profile of 17.
