Space Solar Power Review Vol 1 Num 4 1980

the key role in SPS development will be played by the Western industrial states. The conference ended on a generally optimistic note as to the future of the SPS. It appears that the environmental problems connected with the construction and operation of the SPS can be overcome. Nothing was brought up that indicated a lack of technical feasibility. The economics of the SPS were within the range of possibility, though cost projections are still highly uncertain both for the SPS and other energy sources. The political question of international cooperation may be the most difficult one to solve. It would be well to stimulate the interest of as many people as possible in the SPS and its possibilities, so that unreasonable fears can be dispelled at an early stage.
